The Boulevard is one of eleven community organizations in Illinois receiving funds from The Illinois Public Health Institute (IPHI) to increase access to medical respite care services for people experiencing homelessness. This initiative is funded as part of the State of Illinois' "Home Illinois, Illinois' Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness;" and will support the organizations to help bring together partners and develop a plan for medical respite in the communities they serve.

Since it was established in 1994, The Boulevard has been a pioneer in Illinois medical respite, providing care at our facility located at 3456 W Franklin Blvd in Chicago. Medical respite care is "acute and post-acute care for people experiencing homelessness who are too ill or frail to recover from an illness or injury on the streets or in a shelter, but who do not require hospital-level care." The Boulevard provides short-term housing, combined with medical care and other supportive services, that allows individuals the opportunity to rest, recover, and rebuild their lives.

The initial phase of IPHI's program is slated to run through June 30, 2023. The Boulevard looks forward to working with IPHI and other community organizations to bolster Illinois' medical respite care programs throughout the state. View the press release from IPHI for all the details.
